50 FILIPINO FARMERS TO JOIN AGRI INTERNSHIP PROGRAM IN TAIWAN
FIFTY Filipino farmers will be sent to Taiwan for one year to participate in an agricultural internship program between Taiwan and the Philippines.
Young farmers from different regions participated in an orientation program for the project and will take their basic Mandarin language classes online in preparation for their deployment to Taiwan in June which will be facilitated by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office.
Manila Economic and Cultural Office Chairman and representative in Taiwan Angelito Banayo said it was the first internship program between the Philippines and Taiwan.
“It is expected to further deepen the pragmatic relations between the Philippines and Taiwan, especially at a time when exchanges between most countries in the world are greatly affected by the Covid19 pandemic,” he said.
The interns will be accommodated in housing or facilities prepared by the host farmers. They will learn about local farming skills and technologies through classwork and fieldwork, including crop planting and animal husbandry.
The interns were set to leave the country in March 2021 but their deployment was delayed because of the Covid19 pandemic.
