SEVERAL celebrities are among the thousands seeking elective office in 2022.

Actors who announced their political bid in Quezon City were Aiko Melendez (representative, 5th district), Arjo Atayde (representative, 1st district) and Bobby Andrews (councilor, 4th district).

Andrews’ former on-screen sweetheart Angelu de Leon is running as councilor of the 2nd district of Pasig City.

Actor-politician Yul Servo is eyeing the vice mayor seat in Manila while his former flame Alma Moreno will run as councilor in Parañaque City.

In Cavite, former child star Nash Aguas will try his luck as he runs for councilor in Cavite City. Meanwhile, incumbent Vice Governor Jolo Revilla opted to skip the gubernatorial seat and gunned for a seat in Congress as the first district representative.

In the provinces, Claudine Barretto is running as councilor of Olongapo City.

Comedian Teri Onor — Dexter Dominguez in real life — will run as vice mayor of Abucay town in Bataan province while Javi Benitez eyes the mayoral seat in Victorias City of Negros Occidental.

Actress Arci Muñoz and former basketball player Alvin Patrimonio will run in Cainta, Rizal as councilor and mayor, respectively, under the Lakas-CMD party.

House Majority Leader and Lakas-CMD party President Martin Romualdez said that Patrimonio and Muñoz are “assets” of the party.

“Their decision to join the party is not just a proof of their confidence in us but also of the party’s clean and efficient record of public service,” he said.

The filing of certificates of candidacy for local and national posts will end on October 8.
