THE COMMISSION on Elections on Wednesday announced the creation of a task force which aims to combat disinformation ahead of the May 9 polls.

Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said that Task Force Kontra Fake News was created to eliminate any attempt to destroy the credibility of the electoral process.

“Any misinformation directed against the integrity (of Comelec) we will go after them. We will file a case against them. We will utilize the full force of the law,” Garcia said in a news briefing.

However, the commissioner clarified that the task force will not go after individuals who criticize or oppose the Comelec.

He added that TFNN will also not cover fake news against candidates.

“As far as fake news against the candidates, sa bandang huli, bahala sila sa kanilang sarili. They can properly defend themselves,” Garcia said.

The Comelec earlier launched Task Force Kontra Bigay which seeks to prevent vote-buying during the election season.

Election Commissioner Aimee Ferolino is in charge of the said task force.
