UP VISAYAS TO OFFER NEW MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAM
THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Visayas will offer a new Master’s degree program in Marine Affairs starting the first semester of Academic Year 2021-2022.
The Master of Marine Affairs is an interdisciplinary program that aims to provide technical training for development planners and managers involved in coastal and marine resource management.
“The MMA program requires the completion of 30 units consisting of 9 units of core courses, 9 units of major courses, 9 units of electives, and 3 units of special problem,” UPV said.
The university partnered with the provincial government of Antique to help promote the program, which was initiated by Antique Representative Loren Legarda.
The provincial government said that UPV’s Institute of Fisheries Policy and Development Studies of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences sent a letter to Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao to inform her of the opening of the program.
It said that the MMA program will be a great opportunity for fishery and coastal resource professionals in the province.
“This will develop their personal career growth which will also be beneficial to the LGUs as they will be capacitated with relevant skills and knowledge for them to become more effective fisheries managers and officers,” it said.
