UP MANILA DENIES AFFILIATION WITH BOGUS GUEST SPEAKER IN CAVITE SCHOOL GRADUATION RITES

/ 3 August 2021

The University of the Philippines Manila belied the claims of a graduation guest speaker at the Ramona S. Tirona Memorial High School in Dasmariñas City, Cavite that she finished summa cum laude at the university.

The university clarified that the person was never a student at UPM.

On July 15, Kathleen Joy R. Poblete was introduced as a summa cum laude graduate of UPM’s political science program during the school’s graduation.

Aside from this, Poblete’s resume bragged of a Juris Doctor’s award and Best in Research award from the university.

Poblete also declared that she is currently enrolled in the UPM College of Law.

This is where the lies were discovered as the UPM Department of Social Sciences said that there is no College of Law in the campus.

“The UP Manila Political Science Program categorically denies any affiliations with Ms. Poblete. The Office of the University Registrar has no records of Ms. Poblete over attending the University,” the department said in a statement.

“There has only been one summa cum laude from UP Manila Political Science Program – Ms. Georgina Mia B. Gato – who graduated in 2019. We do not have any Juris Doctor’s award or Best in Research award,” it added.

UPM said it will conduct an investigation on the issue.

The Ramona S. Tirona Memorial High School has yet to issue a statement regarding the matter.
