UP LAW STUDENTS TOP 39TH JEAN-PICTET COMPETITION
LAW students from University of the Philippines emerged champions of the 39th Jean-Pictet Competition held in Bali, Indonesia.
The team was composed of Paolo Jose, Caleb Catalan, and Lance Villarosa as they bested 21 other teams from countries such as Indonesia, Belarus, Ecuador, Iran, and Japan during the meet held from Sept. 3-10.
The students were mentored by Professor Rommel Casis, who served as faculty adviser.
Since the inception of the event in 1989, several other international humanitarian law competitions have been initiated.
It aims to train students for international law and take the law out of the books.
Pictet was a Swiss citizen, jurist, legal practitioner working in international humanitarian law.
His most prominent work was drafting the 1949 Geneva Conventions for the protection of victims of war.
