UE STUDENTS DECRY EXCLUSION OF P.E. GRADES FROM GWA
STUDENT groups in the University of the East decried the new policy of the school to exclude Physical Education grades from the computation of the general weighted average for the 2nd semester of Academic Year 2020-2021.
The Central Student Council lamented that policy changes, particularly in relation to scholarship grants, “keep on taking immediate effect.”
“These changes should not apply as the students have enrolled and worked under the knowledge that the prior policies would rightfully hold,” the CSC said in a letter to UE President Ester Garcia.
“We find it astonishing that the administration would do anything to reduce the number of academic scholars. The fact that no urgency is shown in communicating with the students shows how staggeringly apathetic management can be,” it added.
The group called on the university to honor students’ right to be involved, informed and treated fairly.
“In adhering to the core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability, it is the institution that should first and foremost set an example for its stakeholders. No sensible individual would have anticipated that the rules would be suddenly dishonored and revised as casually as this institution did,” it said.
“The administration’s indifference to its students is intolerable. In concluding yet another appeal, we ask that you at least have the decency to reply to our community,” it added.
