UE STUDENTS DECRY ABOLITION  OF ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING PROGRAM

/ 7 January 2021

ELECTRONICS Engineering students from the University of the East-Manila complained that they were not given any notice on the dissolution of their course.

in a report by the school’s publication The DAWN, a BS ECE student said the university did not inform the students of the removal of their program.

“Walang abiso ‘yong UE sa amin about diyan. Biglaan na lang nagbagsak ng memo na ganyan. No’ng Monday, January 4, 2020, lang sinend sa amin pero December 9 [pa] napirmahan ng CHED,” he said.

He added that 25 students were enrolled in the batch.

“Gulat talaga kami diyan eh. Kung nasabi na sa amin ‘yang ganyan plano, eh ‘di sana nakapagsabi na agad kami ng hinaing namin. Kaso hindi eh. Biglaan ‘yong nangyari talaga. Gulat kami nag-chat prof namin na dissolved na raw ‘yong ECE tapos may memo na,” he said.

The school’s Engineering Council will file a petition to reverse the decision.

“Alam namin na kaunti ‘yong enrollees kaya nga gumagawa ng paraan ‘yong Council para ma-advertise ‘yong mga courses eh,” the student said.

He said that the practical solution would have been to transfer them to UE Caloocan, which offers the same degree program.

The university in December said it had to close the program because of low enrollment turnout and low passing rates in board examinations.
