A STUDENT of the Philippine Science High School bagged the bronze medal in the 17th International Geography Olympiad virtually held on August 10 to 16.
Victor Edwin Reyes of the PSHS-Bicol Region campus bested 180 students from 46 participating countries.
The PSHS system congratulated Reyes for his achievement.
“TWO THUMBS UP, PISAY-BICOL GEOGRAPHY WIZARD! The Philippine Science High School System congratulates Victor Edwin Reyes of the PSHS-Bicol Region Campus for winning the bronze medal in the 17th International Geography Olympiad organized virtually in Istanbul, Turkey from August 10-16,” it said on Facebook.
Reyes said that the iGEO2021 and similar contests he competed in the past were not simply challenges of recalling, but more of understanding and applying what he has memorized.
The PSHS also acknowledged Ceejay Abilay of PSHS-BRC, one of the country’s official delegates to the iGeo “for doing his best to represent the country.”
The two students were mentored by Delia Cassasis.
iGeo is an annual competition for 16 to 19 year-old geography students from all over the world.
