MISS TRANS GLOBAL WEIGHS IN ON LGBTQ ATTIRE IN SCHOOLS

/ 1 September 2022

MISS Trans Global 2020 Mela Habijan pledged to continue her advocacy for inclusivity amid reports of discrimination against students who are members of the LGBTQ community.

The most recent one is the case of Dylan Tansico Silva of the Cavite State University – Imus whose picture will not be shown for wearing the wrong attire.

“Gender expression, through clothing, gives us comfort. Because when we are comfortable, it makes us confident. Comfort and confidence lead to productivity,” Habijan said in a Facebook post.

“Imagine Philippine educational institutions that help build students’ and teachers’ confidence. Imagine productive Filipino students and teachers because they are comfortable and confident,” she added.

Habijan lauded the University of Iloilo for allowing stud education to wear their preferred attire, saying that it is a good step at making schools more inclusive.
