THE HOLY Angel University in Angeles City, Pampanga announced that it will shut down its elementary program because of low enrollment.

HAU President Dr. Luis Maria Calingo said that the phaseout will be gradual.

“This School Year 2021-2022, Holy Angel University will implement a gradual phaseout of its Elementary School, starting with its Kindergarten and Grade 1.  It was a difficult decision to make —the outcome of prayerful discernment —necessitated by the dwindling enrollment,” Calingo said.

“Although our elementary school program has made great strides in its efforts to upgrade its academic standards through national accreditation, the pandemic with all its challenges and complications has only worsened enrollment,” he added.

He assured parents and students that the school will extend referrals and assistance in transferring learners to other schools.

Calingo said that the university will do everything to prevent any layoff of grade school teachers affected by the decision.

With the closing of the elementary school, he said the university will focus on strengthening its Junior High School, Senior High School, college and graduate programs.
