CENTRAL LUZON U CREATES GUIDELINES ON CAMPUS AQUATIC HARVEST

/ 8 October 2021

THE CENTRAL Luzon State University has issued guidelines on the fish farming and harvesting.

The university said that the guidelines were crafted to ensure that “harvesting multi-species of freshwater fish will be done in an environmentally sustainable way to secure access to this species in the future instead of being endangered or extinct.”

It contains nine sections that elucidate “the processes to attain sustainable harvest in aquatic resources,” CLSU said on Facebook.

“In a nutshell, it covers proper education in choosing fish, proper farming management, adaptive management, good water management plan, good record keeping, an interdisciplinary and participatory approach, education and public awareness programs, applying reasonable practices, and harvesting and marketing practices,” it added.

The guidelines were in compliance with the rules and regulations of the Philippine National Standard: Code of Good Aquaculture Practices for Milkfish and Tilapia issued by the Department of Agriculture.

The school’s Board of Regents approved the issuance during the third-quarter meeting.
