DR. OFELIA Samar-Sy, dean of Bicol University’s College of Medicine, was hailed as one of the Outstanding Filipino Physicians for 2022.

Samar-Sy is a practitioner in the field of internal medicine and cardiology. She is also a medical educator, businesswoman and socio-civic leader.

The award was given by the JCI Senate Philippines and the Philippine Medical Associations.

Also honored were doctors from Cebu, Maria Virginia Abalos; Manila, Regina Berba; Pasay and Parañaque, Archie Lamadrid; Marikina, Imelda Mateo and Ilocos Norte, Norman Panfilo Rabago.

Samar-Sy dedicated her win to those who supported her and said that she wants to serve as an inspiration to others who want to be a doctor even if they are poor.

“I wish to thank everyone who shares this joyful moment with me,” Samar-Sy wrote on her Facebook account.

“I am sharing a testament of God’s powerful magic that hopefully will draw inspiration to those who are poor and want to be a doctor. Yes, when He grants His plan, he gives it siksik, liglig, at umaapaw at super long-term,” she added.
