THE PAMANTASAN ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) accepted only 3,000 of more than 70,000 applicants for academic year 2026-2027, PLM President Atty. Domingo Y. Reyes Jr. said during the flag-raising ceremony at Manila City Hall on Monday.

“Kaya po ngayong taong 2026-2027, nagkaroon po tayo ng 70,000 applicants. 43,000 po ang nakakuha ng entrance exam, at 3,000 lang po ang natanggap natin dahil hindi na natin kayang i-absorb ang accommodation,” Reyes said.

Reyes said online applications for the next school year will close on September 30, with 65,000 students already having submitted their applications.

“Pasensya na po, hindi natin mapagbibigyan lahat ng gustong mag-aral sa PLM,” he said.

The PLM president said the construction of a new Health Sciences Building would allow the university to accommodate more students.

“Sana po ay magkaroon pa tayo ng pagkakataon, lalo na po kung maitatayo na ang ating bagong Health Sciences Building na makakadagdag sa dami ng enrollment,” Reyes said.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno also provided an update on the construction of PLM’s College of Health Allied Sciences.

“Rest assured, out of 340 piles, we have done 132 already. Nadurog na, na-clear na, na-pile drive na. So we are on track to creating more space in the PLM grounds, in its original ground, so that we can accommodate more,” Moreno said.

The mayor said the city government is looking for ways to create additional space for students within the university’s existing grounds.

“But what more can we do to give opportunities if we create space within the same space, just by innovation?” he said.

Reyes thanked the city government for its financial support, saying the university has received a total subsidy of P125 million.
