SENATOR URGES IMMEDIATE REPAIR OF TYPHOON RAMIL-DAMAGED CLASSROOMS
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian has called on the Department of Education and local government units to prioritize the repair and rebuilding of classrooms damaged by Typhoon Ramil to ensure the safety and continued education of affected learners.
“I am urging the Department of Education and our local government units to ensure the timely repair of over 300 classrooms destroyed by Typhoon Ramil—56 of which sustained major damage, while 118 were totally destroyed,” Gatchalian said.
“It’s important to give this matter priority to guarantee a safe return to school and uninterrupted learning for our students,” he added.
The senator also emphasized the need for stronger disaster preparedness in schools located in flood-prone areas.
“I am also calling on DepEd and our LGUs to ensure that schools in flood-prone areas are adequately prepared for future calamities. Amid disasters, the safety of our learners must remain our utmost priority,” he stressed.
Gatchalian, a staunch advocate of education and disaster resilience, said the government must act swiftly to restore normal learning conditions, especially in areas frequently affected by typhoons.
