ARELLANO SENDS LYCEUM CRASHING TO FOURTH STRAIGHT LOSS
MANILA, Philippines—Following a close loss to undefeated team Perpetual Help over the weekend, Arellano got its bearings back on Tuesday at San Juan Arena in the NCAA Season 100 men’s basketball tournament.
The Chiefs dealt the Pirates a 92-65 beatdown for their second win of the tournament, much to the delight of coach Chico Manabat.
“‘Pag pusong palaban, talagang Arellano ‘yan,” a beaming Manabat said after helping the Chiefs tally a 2-2 record in the young season.
“We may not have bigs, maliit ‘yong lineup namin pero ‘yong puso na ‘yan, ‘yan talaga ang magdadala. Alam din naman na ‘yang Lyceum, tatakbo ‘yan kaya bakit hindi natin subukan mag small ball?”
Renzo Abiera showed just how much heart the Chiefs have with 16 points and six rebounds. T-Mc Ongotan, who wasn’t necessarily the tallest guy on the floor, registered a double-double in the Arellano win with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Pirates continued to remain winless in the tournament after four games but John Barba still impressed with an 18-point outing that went with eight rebounds.
