LADY TAMARAWS CRUISE TO SECOND VICTORY IN SSL UNITY CUP

28 September 2025

THE FAR Eastern University  Lady Tamaraws continued their strong start in the 2025 Shakey’s Super League Preseason Unity Cup, sweeping Arellano University, 25-22, 25-17, 25-16, on Saturday at the Playtime FilOil Centre in San Juan.

Towering spiker Faida Bakanke powered FEU with 15 points, including 13 from attacks and two blocks. The Congolese standout stepped up in the third frame, contributing eight points to fuel the Lady Tamaraws’ comeback after falling behind 3-9 early in the set. FEU then unleashed a decisive 22-7 rally to close out the match in just 72 minutes.

“We started slow, but Tin (Ubaldo) reminded us to keep moving and give our best effort,” Bakanke said after the game. “We just followed the system of our coaches, making sure we worked hard on every aspect—from our serves to our blocking.”

The victory gave FEU a spotless 2-0 record in Pool B, putting them in a strong position to advance to the next round.

For Arellano, Karylle Melendrez delivered 12 points but could not prevent the Lady Chiefs from suffering their first defeat of the tournament, following an earlier win against Jose Rizal University.

The Lady Tamaraws will aim to complete a pool sweep when they face Adamson University, champions of the National Invitationals Cebu leg, on October 3 at the Paco Arena in Manila.
