FEU TRIUMPHS OVER ADAMSON IN THRILLING THREE-SET VICTORY

9 March 2025

FAR Eastern University secured its sixth consecutive win in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament, defeating Adamson University in three intense sets, 25-23, 25-20, 31-29, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on Saturday (08 Mar 2025).

The Tamaraws faced a tough challenge in the third set, trailing by as much as seven points (8-15), and Adamson reached set point at 24-21. Despite the odds, FEU mounted a comeback, with rookies Luis Miguel, Dryx Saavedra, and Mikko Espartero combining for three straight points to level the score.

While Jude Aguilar kept Adamson in the game, Saavedra and Espartero answered for FEU, forcing a deuce. A costly attack error by Aguilar handed FEU the match point, which Doula Ndongala sealed with a decisive block on Ahmed Tahiluddin, securing the win in 1 hour and 39 minutes.

“We really had to rally from behind, but I saw that our team chemistry has developed, which is why we were able to catch up. This means the team is maturing,” said FEU assistant coach Rene Dulay. The Tamaraws, now 6-0, are one win away from sweeping the first round. They’ll aim to complete the sweep next Saturday against the De La Salle Green Spikers at the Araneta Coliseum.

Saavedra was a standout performer, contributing 18 points with 14 attacks and four blocks. Espartero added 14 points, including 11 spikes and three blocks. Jelord Talisayan and Lirick Mendoza also chipped in with eight points each.

For Adamson, Aguilar led with 16 points, but the Soaring Falcons dropped to 1-4, sharing sixth place with the UP Fighting Maroons. Tahiluddin added 11 points, while Leo Coguimbal contributed seven.
