NEW SENATE COMMITTEE CHAIR TO PUSH FOR MORE POLICIES AND PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH EMPOWERMENT
SENATOR Christopher Bong Go has expressed his gratitude as he assumed the role of chairman of the Senate Committee on Youth, succeeding former Senator and Department of Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara.
Go, known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service, emphasized his commitment to supporting the youth through various initiatives aimed at fostering their development and well-being.
“I am deeply honored to be entrusted with this responsibility. Ang ating kabataan ay ang pag-asa at future leaders ng bayan, at gagawin ko ang lahat upang matulungan silang makamit ang kanilang mga pangarap,” said Go.
“Layunin nating itaguyod ang mga programang makakatulong sa kanilang edukasyon, kalusugan, at kabuhayan upang mailayo sila sa masasamang bisyo tulad ng droga,” he added.
In his new capacity, Go plans to further advocate for youth empowerment through policies and programs that aim to provide more opportunities for their personal growth and participation in governance.
Among the proposed measures that the Committee on Youth is set to tackle are: Senate Bill 2113 which requires the inclusion of financial literacy and entrepreneurship as separate core subjects in the K-12 Program; Senate Bill 2094 which strengthens local sports programs to develop young athletes; and Senate Bills 2059 and 2633 which provides for a Magna Carta of the Out-of-School Youth.
Aside from the Committee on Youth, Go is also the chair of both the Committees on Health and Sports.
He has been a strong proponent of youth engagement in sports, recognizing its potential to positively impact their lives and communities.
“We must encourage our youth to get into sports and stay active. Ito ang magtuturo sa kanila ng disiplina, camaraderie, at malusog na pamumuhay,” Go added.
“Through sports, we can help them build better futures and keep them away from negative influences,” he added.
