UPLB STUDENTS WIN IN DESIGN THINKING TILT

/ 8 May 2023

STUDENTS from the University of the Philippines-Los Baños won in the Design Thinking Competition during the 10th De La Salle University Innovation and Technology Fair held last month.

The team composed of Eunice Dianne Algar, Cathrene Amante, Melannie Cabangbang, Angel Mutia and Charlene Duran pitched a technology called “PhenoFera.”

The technology was developed by the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology through funding from the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research.

“PhenoFera is a phenolic powder derived from locally sourced mango seed waste which is known for its antioxidant, whitening, anti-dandruff, and anti-wrinkling properties. It is an active ingredient in the cosmetics industry and using it as such addresses waste production issues,” UPLB said.

The business pitching competition aimed to promote technologies and innovations aligned with the theme, “Women, Youth, and Indigenous Peoples: Towards Inclusivity in Innovation, Creativity, and Sustainability.”

The event affirms the significance of underserved groups by the IP system in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Students and professionals from various institutions joined the competition that was held at the DLSU.
