UP TO FACE ATENEO IN THE FINALS AFTER PULLING OFF A LATE COMEBACK AGAINST LA SALLE
University of the Philippines (UP) will face Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) in the Finals of UAAP Season 84 after an upset against De La Salle University (DLSU), 78-74, yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Green Archers had the upper hand in the opening frame to finish with seven points advantage and five points in the second quarter.
But DLSU’s domination did not stop in the half of the game and lasted until the third quarter with a deficit of 13 points, thanks to Schonny Winston’s 26 points.
However, the Fighting Maroons showcased its value of excellence and stormed back with a massive 22-4 run in the last quarter.
The man of the day, Carl Tamayo maneuvered the team back to its place after pouring 12 points out of his 19 points in the fourth quarter.
Malick Diouf, on the other hand, bolstered 14 points, 17 boards, four steals, and two blocks followed by Harold Alarcon’s 14 points.
Winston’s effort went to waste as he was held in the paint and had to see the last four minutes of the game scoreless and passed the victory to the Diliman side, 78-74.
“Halos buong game, we were struggling on the floor. Pero hindi nag-give up ang players ko and we overcame adversity,” UP coach Coach Goldwin Monteverde expressed.
