Cignal HD overcame an ambush threat by the Black Mamba Army in the second set to claim a 4-0 record, securing them a twice-to-beat advantage to boot in Monday’s quarterfinals.

Rachel Anne Daquis sizzled with 13 points, 18 excellent digs, and 12 excellent receptions while Ria Meneses led the team in scoring with 15 markers from 12 attacks, two blocks, and one ace.

“Sobrang happy, kasi panalo. But, of course, ‘yung ine-expect namin na dapat maging performance ng team, hindi ‘yan ‘yung [lumabas]. Kumbaga, hindi ‘yun ang talagang laro namin,” Cignal HD coach Shaq delos Santos bared.

“But ang good thing, naka-survive kami, na-overcome ng team namin ‘yung laro,” he added.

After the Army pulled off a 25-20 second set win, Delos Santos called in Ces Molina from the bench to play in the third salvo even with a sprained ankle. 

The national team open spiker delivered a late-set surge with back-to-back hits, finishing off the period with an 8-2 run for a 2-1 lead. 

The Army then struggled to find their rhythm as they only got within two in the fourth, 10-12, before Cignal again pulled away for good.

Ces Molina delivered at the right time with 12 points while Roselyn Doria got 10 markers in the win.

Royse Tubino led Army in the conference-ending loss with 21 points off 18 attacks, 2 aces, while Mich Morente added eight points, 12 digs, and 10 receptions as Army remained winless in four matches.
