Uy earned two silver medals in the underwater hockey category at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, in the women’s 43 and women’s 66 competitions.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Underwater Hockey Confederation confirmed the sad development on its social media accounts.

“We will always miss you, Jowi,” the federation wrote on its Facebook page.

Johanna passed away together with her 67-year-old mother who was reported to be killed due to fire and not being able to leave their respective rooms on the second floor of their home.

Filipinos and co-athletes have poured their condolence and one of which is Philippine para-swimmer Ernie Gawilan.

“Mabait pa naman yan pag nag training sila sa Ultra dati. Condolence sa family,” Gawilan said.
