THE CAMP of Senator Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson denied that the presidential aspirant spent at least P915 million in pre-election campaign advertisements.

His team made the statement after the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism reported that Lacson was the top spender in traditional media advertising.

PCIJ said that the data came from Nielson and the amount was spent from January to December 2021.

It added that P496.68 million of the total ad spending was spent in November alone, ahead of the December pre-election surveys.

“I asked my campaign team, volunteers and supporters about this. They insisted that they never saw, much less had this much money,” Lacson said in his Twitter account on Sunday.

“No way we could have spent what we didn’t have. I asked them to check again – same answer,” he added.

The Commission on Elections limits the campaign spending of candidates depending on the position that they are running for. Candidates are also mandated to submit their campaign expenses after the elections.
