SENATE President Vicente Sotto III denied allegations that his family is emerging as a political dynasty.

In an interview with The Mangahas, Sotto said that it is only a coincidence that he and other family members are in the government at the same time.

Sotto’s nephew Vico is the mayor of Pasig City while his son Gian Carlo is the vice mayor in Quezon City.

“Hindi political dynasty ‘yun. Nagkataon lang na magkakamag-anak [kami],” Sotto, who is running for vice president, said.

He added that the term political dynasty should have a clear definition and should be debated on in Congress.

“We need to define what do you mean by ‘political dynasty’. If there is concentrated influence, then it becomes political dynasty,” he said.
