CITING the surge in Covid19 cases and the damage wrought by Typhoon Odette, the Student Council of the University of the Philippines Diliman appealed for academic ease in consideration of those affected by the health crisis.

The council asked the university to immediately end the semester and to extend deadlines for submitting academic requirements.

“Through constant consultation, and due to the severity of circumstances both experienced by students and faculty, the UP Diliman University Student Council, along with League of College Councils, and University Freshie Council, firmly believes that as a nation’s premier university, we must implement more empathetic and compassionate measures in our educational system and academic environment,” the council wrote.

USC appealed that the grades of students be based on their previously submitted requirements but only if there will be a consultation and approval from students.

Otherwise, the group said that the professors should limit academic workloads or cancel the remaining requirements while there are no synchronous classes yet.

It also sought the implementation of the “no fail” policy.

UP Diliman Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo adjusted last Saturday the schedule for submitting grades from January 25 to January 28.
