SENATE APPROVES SLSU’S RADIO AND TV BROADCAST FRANCHISE

THE SENATE approved on third and final reading a bill that seeks to establish the Southern Luzon State University’s radio and television broadcasting stations.

Senate Bill 10122 will grant SLSU a franchise to operate radio and television broadcasting stations within its campuses in Quezon province for educational purposes.

The stations are seen to enhance the quality  of education and will be used for academic instruction, on-the-job trainings, flexible learning modes, programs promoting interaction of farmers with other sectors, and research programs.

SLSU President Doracie Zoleta Nantes noted how Covid19 affected over 9,000 students of SLSU.

“The proposal aims to establish radio and TV broadcasting stations to address the issue of inclusivity in education either formal or non-formal learning in geographically isolated island, municipalities of the province,” Nantes said.

“We want to support the promotion of culture through various programs which will be part of our curricular program offering as indicated in the Republic Act of Conservation and the National Cultural Heritage,” the official added.
