ALAS WOMEN STEP UP ASIAN GAMES PREPARATIONS
SEVENTEEN of the 22 members of the Alas Pilipinas Women’s pool are now on their third day of intensive training as they prepare for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, in September.
Organized under the supervision of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), the national team pool is being coached by Japanese mentor Takayuki Minowa. The players are holding alternating training sessions at Gameville in Mandaluyong City and MPire Center in Quezon City before eventually moving their camp to the Philippine Sports Commission’s PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Training sessions are held from Monday to Friday, from 12 noon to 3 p.m.
Still yet to join the training sessions are Akari’s Fifi Sharma, NXLED’s Gel Cayuna, De La Salle stars Angel Canino and Amie Provido, and PLDT’s Alleiah Jan Malaluan, who is recovering from a knee injury.
Currently in active training are Creamline’s Jia De Guzman and Jennifer Nierva, PLDT’s Dell Palomata, Zus Coffee’s Thea Gagate, Akari’s Marionne Alba and Justine Jazareno, and Capital1’s Bella Belen, Vanie Gandler, and Erika Santos.
Also attending the training sessions are Choco Mucho’s Dawn Catindig and Eya Laure, SGA’s Nina Ytang and Alyssa Solomon, and National University’s Arah Panique, Shaira Jardio, Celine Marsh, and Vange Alinsug.
Adamson University’s Shaira Shaina Marie Nitura, meanwhile, is recovering from surgery.
The Alas Pilipinas Women’s first competition will be the Sixth Southeast Asia (SEA) V Cup—Week 1 in Ninh Binh, Vietnam from July 31 to August 2, and Week 2 in Chiang Mai, Thailand from August 7 to 9.
The Alas Pilipinas Men, meanwhile, are already in Candon City for the Men’s SEA V Cup scheduled from July 15 to 19 at the Candon City Arena.
The national federation remains suspended by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), with the Philippine Olympic Committee serving as caretaker.
The FIVB emphasized the need for the federation, leagues, and stakeholders to adhere to the country’s current National Team Season—Women’s from May 4 to October 4 and Men’s from May 18 to October 18—as well as the League Season—Women’s from October 5 to May 2, 2027, and Men’s from October 19 to May 16, 2027.
The 20th Asian Games will be held from September 19 to October 4.
