CIGNAL HD CLINCHES FIRST VICTORY IN A PIT AGAINST STA. LUCIA
Cignal HD got off the frightening third set as they dominated Sta. Lucia, 25-22, 25-18, 13-25, 25-20, at the PCV Socio-Civic Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte bubble on Wednesday, July 21.
Roselyn Doria and Janine Marciano both paved way for Cignal with 14 points apiece. Doria was hailed as the player of the game with five attacks, five blocks, and four aces, combined with eight points each from Dacquis and Ipac.
The HD spikers were on fire in the first set rallying a simultaneous 5-0 point-score gap which showcased a crucial mistake from Sta. Lucia for giving the confidence for Cignal.
Despite Sta. Lucia’s effort and MJ Philipps impressive offense, the first set ended with a three-point lead after the back-to-back winning points of Estrañero’s successful dump and an over-received surprised attack from Ipac.
Even though the Lady Realtors rallied behind the sluggish defense in the first set, Sta. Lucia retaliated with a strong serving on the second frame. However, the confidence of Cignal still continued as Doria released multiple aces.
Despite Aiza Maizo-Pontillas putting an end to the 23-17 advantage, Daquis ended the second set with a seven-point lead.
the third set came with a bad footing for the HD Spikers with a whopping 12 errors combined with Sta. Lucia’s grit of a 15-1 run, to 9-9 tie, to 24-10 and ended with a frightening 12-point lead victory for the Lady Realtors.
Cignal was able to grasp the fourth set with an 18-10 advantage mid-frame and continued to battle to 21-18 that ended with Del Palomata’s net touch violation giving leeway for Cignal to end the set with a five-point lead with Fiona Ceballos getting the last point.
Cignal coach Shaq delos Santos was proud of the team as they were able to knot things up after a three-set loss to Cherry Tiggo on Monday.
“Mabilis ng adjustment namin. Imagine one day lang yung wala kaming laro and then may laro na ulit. Good thing din kahit papano lumalabas din yung naging preparation namin,” said coach delos Santos.
“Hopefully, mas mag improve pa kasi talagang nasa process kami ng transition ng team so sipag lang din.”
