DWIGHT RAMOS SET TO ENTER GILAS BUBBLE TRAINING CAMP SOON
Gilas Pilipinas standout Dwight Ramos is expected to reunite with the team in bubble training camp at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna.
Ramos, one of the standouts for Gilas Pilipinas in the most recent FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers, arrived from California last week, having flown back when the national team pushed to stop training in late March when “NCR Plus” was placed under enhanced community quarantine.
“I’m just getting this quarantine,” Ramos said in a guesting on Hoops Life presented by Smart Sports.
“Just got back (from) the States. Just wait for a week, get my swab, and hopefully, get to Inspire.”
The rest of the Gilas men have been at the training bubble since April 26, where they are preparing for the final window of the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 qualifiers next month in Clark, Pampanga.
The Fil-Am swingman is expected to play a big role for Gilas in its upcoming tournaments, with the third window of the 2021 Fiba Asia Cup qualifiers up first in Clark from June 16 to 20.
Gilas Pilipinas will have its first match against Korea on June 16, followed by a game with Indonesia on June 19, and Korea anew on June 20.
The Ateneo forward averaged 12.7 points on 57-percent shooting from deep, to go with 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.7 steals in 20.1 minutes of action in the three games he suited up in the qualifiers.
Aside from the qualifiers, the team will also take action in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade, Serbia from June 29 to July 4, and the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup proper in August in Indonesia.
The national team resumed its bubble training in late April, with SBP program director Tab Baldwin overseeing the proceedings.
