If you ask me, one of the best parts of the holidays is getting to blast the tunes of the yuletide season! We of course have our Christmas favorites, the classics that we start to hear in the Philippines once the ber-months roll around. Although, it might be time that we update our holiday playlist with Christmas songs from the recent decade. Check out these recommendations that feature some of our favorite OPM, Western Pop, and K-Pop artists!
Tuloy Na Tuloy Pa Rin Ang Pasko by Ben&Ben (2021)
Released last November was popular OPM band Ben&Ben’s cover of APO Hiking Society’s “Tuloy Na Tuloy Pa Rin Ang Pasko.” This song was originally part of the OPM legend’s 1991 Christmas album PaskonAPO. This cover gives new life to this Christmas classic that conveys a message that is timely and relevant especially given our current situation.
No Snow by Reese Lansangan (2016)
In this 2016 original by OPM artist Reese Lansangan, she sings about Christmas in the Philippines. Although we may not have snow in this tropical country, our Christmas is still a special and glowing time that begins as early as September.
Christmas Tree Farm by Taylor Swift (2019)
Following her EP of Christmas songs way back in 2007, Taylor Swift released an original Christmas track in 2019 that speaks of appreciating the quaint beauty of the holidays. Having grown up on a farm herself, this song is all about keeping that memory and feeling of a simple Christmas spent with your loved ones alive despite how hectic life has gotten.
Merry Christmas by Ed Sheeran and Elton John (2021)
This song released very recently is Ed Sheeran’s first Christmas-themed song and is one he did with music legend Sir Elton John. This fun and festive track also supports great causes with its proceeds going to the Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation and the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
Candles by THE BOYZ (2021)
Released last December 6, on the group’s 4th anniversary, is K-Pop boy group THE BOYZ’s newest Christmas-themed special single. Having debuted in the month of December, the group tends to release songs for the Holidays every year as a heartfelt gift to their fans. Like a candle this song provides light and warmth during such trying times.
Confession Song by GOT7 (2015)
Released back in 2015 as part of their MAD: Winter Edition repackaged album, this Christmassy song by K-Pop boy group GOT7 is all about confessing your love during the season of sharing. This is a sweet and cute track, perfect for those who are feeling the love in this winter air.
We hope these recommendations make it into your playlist and that they become a part of your soundtrack for the holiday season. We here at The POST wish you a merry and music-filled Christmas, ka-tambay!
