Nygel Gonzales led Mapua scorers with 18 points, including a lay-up that gave the Red Robins a 10-0 lead in the opening canto. He also had six rebounds and six assists.

Sean Salvador also chipped in 11 points for Mapua aside from three crucial assists, three boards and two blocks.

The Mendiola-based Red Cubs showed the way in the early going but Red Robins recovered their form and led by as much as 20 points, on a Noel Agemenyi jumper with 2:56 remaining, and never looked back.

Hot-shooting Chris Huballa did his best for San Beda as he came away with 18 points, 11 rebounds and three assists.

In other games, San Sebastian shellacked Emilio Aguinaldo College, 82-51, even as CSB-La Salle Green Hills prevailed over hard-luck Arellano University, 73-69, and Lyceum of the Philippines University nailed a convincing 87-77 win over Jose Rizal University.

The Staglets, the Greenies and the Junior Pirates moved in a tie with the Red Cubs and the Light Bombers at 2-2.

Ernest Geronimo logged 12 points, five rebounds and two steals for San Sebastian, which led by as much as 33 points.

Luis Pablo had a double-double outing of 21 points and 14 points while Rod Alian tossed in 16 points for LSGH.

Matthew Rubico played big for LPU with 32 points, 13 boards, five assists and three steals.

The Brigadiers and the Braves fell to 0-4.
