Diaz received P1 million pesos as a cash incentive as a gesture of gratitude, UZ said.

She was also awarded three lifetime scholarship slots for student-athletes of her choice. The grant is called the ‘Hidilyn Diaz’s Weighlifting Scholarship.’

UZ said that the move is to hone the next generation of world-class athletes.

The university will also release two books which are dedicated to Diaz’s life, and to student-athletes who came from Zamboanga City and benefitted from UZ’s efforts.

Olympic Bronze medalist Eumir Marcial was also present at the event and was awarded P200,000.
