UST NOTCHES FOURTH STRAIGHT VICTORY AFTER TAKING REVENGE AGAINST UP

The University of Sto Tomas (UST) got revenge against the University of the Philippines (UP) in a four-set win, 25-20, 18-25, 26-24, 25-23, at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, May 28.

The Golden Tigresses redeemed themselves after bowing to UP in a four-set game in the first round and took their honor back by shutting out the latter in the second round, which lasted over two and a half hours.

UST clinched their fourth consecutive win but the Fighting Maroons did not easily give away as the Katipunan side tied the set score to 1-1.

UP had a dominating 24-21 lead in the third frame for a possible 2-1 set lead, but EJ Laure – who scored 25 points and 20 excellent receptions – ignited a fantastic 5-0 blitz that placed UST in control until UP committed four touches error followed by another net touch, giving UST the set.

UST closed out UP as Laure powered a crosscourt to finally end the game with the UST coming out victorious as Yssa Jimenez scored 10 points, Camille Victoria had nine, and Ypril Tapia chipped in eight.

Meanwhile, Jewel Encarnacion paced UP with 18 points, as Alyssa Bertolano scored 15, and dropped to 4-5 after suffering its fifth loss in six games.

UST will play Ateneo de Manila on Tuesday, while UP will look to bounce back against La Salle on the same day.
