USC STUDENT WINS WOMEN’S NATIONAL MASTER TITLE

A student from the University of San Carlos earned the Women's National Master (WNM) title.

Regina Catherine Quianola, 17, won back-to-back bronze medals in the 19th ASEAN Age Groups Chess Championships to earn her title. 

Quianola was awarded the WNM title by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) for her outstanding performances in the 2017 and 2018 ASEAN Age Group Chess Championships. 

Regina Catherine, along with Mary Margaret and Glybel Jane Quianola, is a well-known Quianola chess sister. 

After eight rounds of competition, she finished third overall with 5.5 points in the 2017 ASEAN Age-Group Chess Championships in Pahang, Malaysia. 

Quianola was a gold medalist in the 2017 Palarong Pambansa in San Jose, Antique, and the Asian Universities Chess Championships in Tagaytay in 2018.
