It was indeed a comeback from the Fighting Maroons after falling short in the first round with a 3-4 record, but the Katipunan side climbed to a 4-4 slate with a victory over UE in the second round.

UP did not waste any chance and easily dominated the first two sets and to no avail, the Red Warriors failed to recover as the former entered the third and last frame with the determination to end the match.

Niña Ytang who scored 13 points for UP gave a flawless drop to give the team a 10-point advantage late in the third set, 21-11.

UE rallied back with a 4-0 run, 15-22, but the Red Warriors were running out of time and failed to secure the third set with an anti-climatic attack error to give the win to UP, 25-17.

Alyssa Bertolano powered the Fighting Maroons with 14 points, while Jewel Encarnacion scored 10 points, and Marianne Sotomil tallied 16 excellent sets with two points.

Meanwhile, no Red Warriors delivered double-digit scores as Lia Pelaga paced UE with eight points, while Ja Lana scored seven, and Dara Nieva and Rhea Manalo chipped in five points

UP will battle UST at 12:30 p.m. on May 28, and UE will try to get its first win against Adamson at 10 a.m. on the same day.
