UAAP TO BE BACK IN ACTION FOR SEASON 84

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) will be back on the court as the league is set to return to action on March 26 for its 84th Season.

The development was confirmed on Friday by UAAP Season 84 president Emmanuel Calanog, who is also the Office of Sports Development director of season host De La Salle University (DLSU).

“It is now Season 84, even if there was no actual tournament for Season 83,” said Calanog to ABS-CBN News.

The league was forced to cancel its second-semester events in Season 82 and call off its Season 83 as they prioritize the health and safety of their stakeholders.

Given the easing situation, the UAAP still cannot open a full calendar of events for its 84th Season.

The board is still finalizing the possible venues for the games and is in talks with their usual partners such as the Mall of Asia Arena, the Araneta Coliseum, the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan, and even the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

“We will be announcing the final venue in a couple of weeks. We’re just finalizing with them. The Important thing with us right now is if the venue can have us for the entire tournament because it’s very difficult to be moving from one venue to another,” Calanog explained.

UAAP Season 84 will hold men’s basketball, women’s volleyball, cheer dance, men’s and women’s 3×3 basketball, men’s beach volleyball, poomsae, and men’s and women’s chess.

The officials are still hopeful to conduct more events in Season 85 that are scheduled later this year, which will be hosted by Adamson University.

“Adamson is looking to open Season 85 in October,” said Calanog. “So there will be two basketball seasons in the same year. That will be hopefully in a more ‘new normal’ situation.”
