PHILIPPINE MALDITAS MAKES HISTORIC WIN TO QUALIFY IN FIFA WORLD CUP, BEATS TAIWAN IN AFC WOMEN’S ASIAN CUP
The national women’s football team made history as the team qualified in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup after defeating Chinese Taipei with a score of 4-3 in their quarterfinals match at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in India.
It was Sarina Bolden’s penalty shootout that gave the Philippines the ticket in the grand competition after the two saves of keeper Olivia McDaniel.
And Bolden shared that winning the game and making history is one, might as well bring their excellence in the tournament.
“I think the locker room and everyone is, ‘Hey, we won this game and made history on top of history. Might as well keep going to the top and win this whole tournament,’” she shared.
“The belief is like, let’s continue to make history and prove people wrong. Let’s keep working hard and achieve more than what people thought we could achieve.”
While for McDaniel, the feat still feels surreal saying that “it was just a dream a couple of months ago but now, it’s reality.”
The Lady booters will match again on February 3 against Korea in the semi-finals.
