PBA TO HOLD A FIVE-DAY PLAYDATES A WEEK FORMAT IN ITS 2021 PH CUP RESUMPTION
PBA is shifting to a five-day play dates schedule in its upcoming resumption of Season 46 Philippine Cup to be held in the province of Pampanga.
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said that games will be held either a double-header or a triple-bill from Wednesday to Sunday, with Mondays reserved for RT-PCR tests for all individuals concerned.
He also introduced the implementation of antigen testing on every team on the day of their games as part of stricter protocols being implemented by the league.
It will also be conducted under a semi-bubble or under a hotel-venue-hotel set-up.
Moreover, the league is eyeing mid-October to finish the 2021 Philippine Cup.
“With this set-up and if everything works well, baka magtuloy-tuloy na ang laro and we can finish the eliminations by Sept. 19,” said PBA commissioner Willie Marcial.
Marcial also shared that the match-ups of the games will only be announced upon the release of results of weekly testing to be conducted on all team members, in contrast with its format before when the whole elimination-round schedule was pre-set.
“May doubleheader, may tripleheader pero ilalabas lang namin ang schedule every Tuesday afternoon after nila mag-test ng Monday. Doon pa lang natin malalaman. Weekly ang labas ng schedule,” said Marcial.
Marcial and the league are looking to restart its conference in early September following its approval by Pampanga governor Dennis Pineda the other day in Bacolor.
Don Honorio Ventura State University Gym will be used as a venue, but that is not official yet as the league is waiting for its approval from school officials.
DHVSU officials led by president Enrique Baking are scheduled to discuss the request Wednesday, Aug. 25 according to Marcial in the same program.
The 2021 Philippine Cup was forced to find an alternative site after the Aug. 1 doubleheader at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City was halted due to the current restrictions implemented in the NCR plus area now under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
