NU OUSTS UST, BOOKS FINALS REMATCH WITH LA SALLE

3 May 2026

NATIONAL University kept its title defense alive after dispatching University of Santo Tomas in four sets, 20-25, 26-24, 26-24, 25-21, to clinch a Finals berth in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

After dropping the opening frame, NU showed resilience by grinding out two tight middle sets before pulling away late in the fourth to complete the comeback win.

Coach Regine Diego highlighted the team’s collective effort, noting that multiple players stepped up in crucial moments.

Trailing by four points in the fourth set, the Lady Bulldogs surged with a dominant run to reach match point. UST attempted a late rally through Angge Poyos and Regine Jurado, but NU sealed the match with a crucial block by Alexa Mata.

Arah Panique delivered a standout performance with 23 points, supported by Vange Alinsug and Chamy Maaya. Playmaker Lams Lamina anchored NU’s offense with consistent sets.

UST, which earlier eliminated Adamson, leaned on Jurado and Poyos offensively, while Detdet Pepito impressed in what could be her final UAAP appearance.

The Lady Bulldogs now gear up for a best-of-three championship clash against the La Salle Lady Archers, who advanced directly to the Finals after sweeping the eliminations. Game 1 is scheduled at Mall of Asia Arena.
