NBL, WNBL SUSPEND SEASON RESUMPTION DUE TO MECQ EXTENSION

The National Basketball League (NBL) and Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) have decided to cancel the supposed restart of the games following the extension of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila until September 15.

The leagues have come up with the decision of putting the resumption of the conference on hold again due to the MECQ extension by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

The NBL and WNBL were scheduled to make their comeback on September 11 at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga with one game in the WNBL and three games in the NBL.

While Pampanga, the venue of the games, is under the MGCQ classification, several NBL and WNBL pro basketball squads are in NCR which hinders them from conducting training under the supervision of the Games and Amusements Board.

The leagues had scheduled games between Taguig Lady Generals and Quezon Lady SparTAN in the WNBL.

Meanwhile, the Sulong Stan vs Muntinlupa Emeralds, Laguna Pistons against Quezon Barons, and Pampanga Delta opposite the Mindoro Tamaraws Disiplinados were supposed to face each other in the NBL.

“As much as the teams and players are very excited to return to the court, the NBL and the WNBL will remain compliant with the government mandate during this pandemic,” read in the statement of NBL/WNBL executive vice president Rhose Montreal.

Bulacan DF Republicans lead the Chooks-to-Go NBL Chairman’s Cup 2021 season with a 2-0 record.

Glutagence Glow Boosters, on the other hand, are in first place in the Pia Cayetano WNBL Season 2021.
