MANILA STUDENT WINS GOLD AT 2026 SOUTHEAST ASIAN FENCING CHAMPIONSHIP
THE CITY of Manila is celebrating the achievement of young fencer Willa Liana Galvez, a resident of Barrio Obrero in Tondo, after her strong showing at the 2026 Southeast Asian Fencing Federation (SEAFF) Junior and Cadet Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Galvez, a Grade 10 student of the University of the East Manila, brought home three medals from the regional competition.
She won the gold medal in the Junior U21 Women’s Foil Team event, along with a bronze medal in the Junior U21 Women’s Foil Individual event.
She also secured a silver medal in the Cadet U17 Women’s Foil Team event.
The Manila Public Information Office congratulated Galvez for her outstanding performance, saying her hard work, discipline, and determination brought honor to Manila and the Philippines.
The city government also expressed pride in the young athlete, who continues to represent Manila on the international fencing stage.
Galvez’s achievement highlights the potential of young Filipino athletes and underscores the importance of supporting them as they compete at regional and international levels.
