LA UNION TROUNCES MUNTINLUPA, SECURES NBL FINALS REMATCH AGAINST PAMPANGA
La Union will play for the NBL finals after crushing Muntinlupa in game 2 of their Semifinals series, 107-84, on Sunday in the Chooks-to-Go NBL Chairman’s Cup 2021 at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.
It will be the second consecutive year for La Union to play in the NBL finals in a face-off against Pampanga once again.
Last year, La Union lost the championship game to Pampanga; but this year, they are looking for a rematch after beating Muntinlupa in the best-of-three semifinals.
Despite a well-fought game for Muntinlupa, their continuous 13 unanswered points at the fourth frame, was easily toppled by La union.
With 4:25 left in the game, La Union fired up and delivered a simultaneous 15-3 burst and delivered 17 points to secure the slot in the NBL finals.
The squad was led by Jayson Apolonio who fired 24 points and 15 rebounds; combined with Billy Boado and Ian Llona’s 18 points apiece, and Mitchelle Maynes’ 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench
