“We are thankful for the FIVB’s quick response to our request and we are more thankful that the federation picked an excellent man for the job,” shared PNVF president Ramon “Tats” Suzara.

“With coach Jorge’s vast experience as a coach and player, we are very sure that we will get the technology transfer we have aspired for,” he added.

Souza de Brito will bring his experience for the blue and red flag as he was a former member of the Brazilian men’s team that won the volleyball gold medal in the Barcelona 1992 Olympics.

Moreover, he proved that his skills are not just for playing but also in the field of coaching as the decorated mentor led the women’s team victory, winning the gold medal in the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

De Brito will work on his credentials as a coach together with national women’s team coach Odjie Mamon for two years upon his arrival in June or July.

Suzara also averred that FIVB will be handling Jorge’s salary but the PNVF will be responsible for the accommodation, food, and local transport.

“At the moment, he will focus on the women’s team only, and let’s see if we can expand later to the youth squad,” he concluded.
