EJ OBIENA REIGNS AS SWEDEN TOURNAMENT CHAMPION

Ej Obiena raised the Filipino pride once again after bagging the gold medal in the Gothenburg Athletics Grand Prix in Sweden.

/ 4 June 2021

Filipino vault sensation Obiena finished 5.70 meters in the men’s pole vault final.

“A great start to the 2021 Outdoor season!” Obiena posted in his social media post following the victory.

While next in line were Brazil’s Thiago Braz who cleared 5.65 meters and then followed by Norway’s Pal Haugen Lillefosse clearing 5.60 meters.

Prior to this triumph, Obiena bannered excellence, and bagged gold medals from tournaments in Berlin last February and in Ostrava in September last year.

And while preparing for the Tokyo bid, Obiena is going to represent the country for three more tournaments in the last week of June.

Obiena is the first Filipino to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and will join the other 8 participants—gymnast Carlos Yulo, boxers Eumir Marcial, Irish Magno, Nesthy Petecio, and Carlo Paalam, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, rower Cris Nievarez, and taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa.
