EJ OBIENA EARNS A SPOT TO COMPETE FOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, WORLD INDOORS AFTER ORLEN STINT

EJ Obiena clinched a gold medal in the Orlen Cup in Poland 2022 which gave him the ticket to qualify in two major world championships this year.

Obiena vaulted 5.81-meter in Poland, earning him a berth in the World Athletics Indoor Championships and World Athletics Championships

The World Athletics Indoor Championships will be held in Belgrade from March 18 to 20, which has a 5.81-meter standard.

Meanwhile, the World Athletics Championships will be held from July 15 to 24 in Eugene, Oregon, and has a 5.80-meter standard mark.

While this will be Obiena’s first appearance in the World Indoor Championship, it will be his second appearance in the World Championship since 2019.

Obiena will next compete on February 17 at the Meeting Hauts-de-France in Lievin, France.

Regardless of the ongoing issue with the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA), he acknowledged not just his own but also everyone else’s hardships, while thanking everyone for their unending support.

“I have my share of adversity as everyone knows. But so does everyone else. The name of the game is to keep showing up and keep trying,” said Obiena.

“Thank you for all your support and for trying each day despite your own adversities. I’m gonna keep trying until I can. This I promise you,” he added.
