CIGNAL HD SPIKERS OPENED THEIR PVL CAMPAIGN WITH A WIN AGAINST DEFENDING CHAMPS CHERY TIGGO
Cignal HD Spikers showed an impressive performance with their revamped roster as Rachel Anne Daquis and Angeli Araneta led the team to a 3-1 set win, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18, over the title defenders Chery Tiggo at the Paco Arena in Manila, Wednesday.
Cignal and Chery had a fair share in the game as both teams got a one-set win but in the third frame, however, Cignal got ahead to get an advantage of 19-17 lead with Roselyn Doria ending the set, 25-22.
The defending champion Crossovers tried to recover in the fourth frame but is faced with a 14-all deadlock. However, Cignal did not falter and made another astonishing 11-4 run with Daquis back-to-back points off a kill and a block.
Molina led Cignal with 16 points while Daquis and Araneta added 14 and 12, respectively.
The team’s success was also thanks to Ria Meneses’ presence at the net, blocking six attacks to wound up with 11 markers and Gel Cayuna’s five points and 18 excellent sets.
Meanwhile, Thailand League import and Best Scorer Mylene Paat came off the bench for 10 markers and Dindin Santiago-Manabat leading Chery with team-high 14 points amidst the absence of Jaja Santiago.
Cignal will try to start a winning streak against another powerhouse F2 Cargo Movers on Sunday, March 20, at 3 pm while Chery will try to bounce back as they face F2 on Friday, March 18, 6 pm.
