CEBUANO LIFTERS DOMINATE PRISAA GAMES WITH 12-GOLD HAUL
BACOLOD CITY – Cebuano weightlifters from the University of Cebu made a strong statement at the National PRISAA Games on Sunday night, capturing 12 gold medals in the Youth division held at the STI West Negros University Students’ Activity Center.
Leading the charge was 14-year-old Althea Bacaro, who ruled the U15 girls’ 46kg category after lifting a total of 140kg, composed of 60kg in the snatch and 80kg in the clean and jerk. The incoming Grade 10 student expressed joy over her victory, saying she achieved her goal of winning gold.
Her older sister, 17-year-old Albe May Ella Bacaro, also claimed top honors in the 49kg division with a combined lift of 142kg.
In other events, Rhianne Cabalida dominated the 69kg class with a total lift of 181kg, while Jean Mae Palagtiw secured gold in the 69+kg division after posting a 194kg total.
Assistant coach Christopher Bureros praised the athletes’ performances, noting their determination and strong debut in the national competition.
Central Visayas continued its medal haul with additional golds from Bohol-based lifters, while other regions also shared the spotlight, including Central Luzon, Bicol, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Western Mindanao.
