UC AND DOST TO HELP INSTALL GROUNDWATER FACILITY IN BAGUIO

/ 14 August 2021

THE UNIVERSITY of Cordillera and the Department of Science and Technology will help Baguio City develop an artificial groundwater recharge facility.

The city’s Public Information Office said that the city will collect rainwater to help address water supply concerns.

It said that Baguio gets the highest annual rainfall rate among localities in the country.

“The project will involve the gathering of [rainwater] from the roof of the Baguio swimming pool which will be directed to a catchment and filtration area before being injected to the aquifer through an injection well that will be constructed purposely for [real-time] recharging,” the report said.

“The study group disclosed that the recharging of the aquifer using this technology will be [real-time] unlike in the natural recharging process which will take years for the groundwater to reach the aquifer and this can be replicated in other strategic areas in the city,” it added.

The P2.5 million project is expected to be implemented in two years.
