FORMER UEP PRESIDENT KILLED IN NORTHERN SAMAR

/ 14 June 2021

Former University of Eastern Philippines president Rolando Delorino was killed in his home in Catarman, Northern Samar on Sunday, a police report said.

Police Provincial Director Colonel Arnel Apud said that Delorino, 64, was repeatedly stabbed. His body was found by his daughter near the kitchen door at 5:45 a.m.

Apud said that Alvin Plandez, 22, a construction worker, was arrested and admitted to the crime. Plandez was seen outside Delorino’s house from midnight to 5 a.m. based on the CCTV footage.

Plandez claimed that the slaying was ordered by members of the New People’s Army. He said the rebels threatened to kill his family if he did not carry out their order.

Apud said authorities are validating Plandez’s statement.

The Northern Samar provincial government condemned the killing.

“The retired president was living a peaceful life but was heartlessly attacked. We hope that those who did such a grim act be caught and justice be served to a peace-loving and faithful public servant,” it said in a statement.

Delorino was the 6th president of UEP.
